Happy Mother's Day from Preschool!

Wishing all our loved ones a very Happy Mother's Day for this coming Sunday!

The preschoolers have been very busy creating gifts and art work to spoil their mums and carers.  As well as being a nice keepsake for loved ones, having a focus on Mother's Day provides children with an example of the many ways we recognise and celebrate identities within our families and community.

We would love to see as many mothers, carers, grandmothers, aunties and other loved ones at our annual Mother's Day breakfast on Friday 10th May.  A gold coin donation at the door will go to Roundabout Canberra to support women experiencing hardship within the Canberra region.  See below the invitation and a sample of our preschool art work that will be on display for you to enjoy!
Please RSVP to the front office as soon as possible. We hope to see you there!

ANZAC Commemoration at Fraser

Welcome back to Term 2!

To start the term, the preschool children were invited to attend the ANZAC Commemoration Assembly that was held in the school hall.  Before the assembly, we talked about when ANZAC Day is, why it is an important date in our culture and some of the symbols associated with ANZAC Day including poppies.

To support their learning, the children viewed some resources online.  Please see the links below to revisit them at home if you would like.

They then made their own poppies to wear to the ANZAC Commemoration Assembly.

The Kangaroos and Koalas were incredibly respectful during the assembly and represented preschool so well.

Constable Kenny Term One Visit

During week nine, Constable Kenny and his friend David came to visit preschool to talk about how to stay safe at school.  Kenny and David taught us that it is important to have rules at preschool and to follow them so that we stay safe.  During the visit, we also got to see Constable Kenny's car which has a very loud siren and flashing red and blue lights.

We are looking forward to Constable Kenny and David coming to visit us again soon.

Preschool Celebrates Harmony Week

During Week Seven, the children at preschool did some learning around Harmony Day.  Harmony Day is celebrated annually on March 21st in Australia.  The overarching message of Harmony Day is 'Everyone Belongs'. It is about community participation, inclusiveness, celebrating diversity, respect and belonging.  As we have been focusing on belonging at preschool this term, it was wonderful to be able to extend the children's learning around this concept.

The children decorated a hand using paint and oil pastels.  They then placed their hands in one of the preschool's front entrance gardens, symbolising that while we are all different and special, we are all part of one community that works harmoniously together.

As well as creating our Happy Harmony Hands, the children listened to some stories including I Am Australian Too by Mem Fox and enjoyed learning some songs and dances about different ways people around the world greet each other.  Some of the greetings they learnt included Konichiwa (Japanese), Namaste (Indian), Bonjour (French), Ciao (Italian), Buenos Dias (Spanish), Guten Tag (German) Do-Brey Dien (Russian), Shalom (Hebrew), Kia Ora (Maori) and Ni Hao (Chinese).

Please see some photos below of our Happy Harmony Hands.

Below is a link to I Am Australian Too by Mem Fox so that you can listen and view the story with your family.

Preschool Rules

As part our learning around Belonging at preschool, the Kangaroos, Koalas, Bilbies and Echidnas discussed the importance of having rules at preschool.

The children decided that rules are important because they help to keep people safe, happy and make things fair. Everyone agreed that we should have rules at preschool and that these rules help us to learn inside and outside.

As part of their discussions, the children were asked to share some ideas around rules that they think we should have.  The teachers then took their ideas and put them together to be displayed on a poster in the classrooms.  The children and the teachers put their thumb print on their rules to say that we all agree to follow our rules at preschool.

Please see below our preschool rules for 2019 at preschool.  Feel free to have a discussion with your child at home about the rules we have at preschool, the rules you have at home and any similarities or differences you notice.

At preschool we are kind, safe and respectful learners.

We listen to each other and use quiet voices.
We keep our hands and feet to ourselves.
We walk inside and run outside.
We listen with our whole bodies.
We look after our things and help to pack away.
We take turns and share.
We learn and play together.
We are kind to everyone and try to have happy faces.

Fraser Fete

It was so wonderful to see so many families at our Fraser Fete on Sunday, celebrating forty years of our amazing school.  Thank you to the families who volunteered their time and/or donated fruit and chocolate for the Preschool Fruit Stall and chocolate toss.  Your contributions helped us to hold yet another successful fete.

Welcome BBQ

Thank you to everyone who came along last night to the Welcome BBQ. It was wonderful to see everyone and have a catch up and a chat. I saw lots of excited and happy faces from the Kindergarten and Preschool children and their families. I hope this great start is a prediction for an amazing 2019.

The Building arrives!

The new building arrived on Wednesday, much to the excitement of the preschoolers (and Teachers). It was amazing to watch the set up and then craning in of the bulding in five separate parts. They were quickly put together to make an amazing looking building. I for one am very excited about getting into the building and making it our own. I have added a few snaps if you wish to dicsuss with your children.

Welcome to Preschool 2019!

We are so excited to welcome our new Kangaroos, Koalas, Echidnas and Bilbies to preschool for 2019.

The children have been settling into our preschool routines very quickly, engaging with a broad range of learning experiences and developing relationships with staff and peers.  At this stage of the year, it is not uncommon for children to become upset when separating from their loved ones in the morning.  The preschool staff are here to support you and your child when required.  Please rest assured that we will contact you if your child remains distressed for a prolonged period of time.  Alternatively, you are welcome to call preschool on 61420539 (Kangaroos and Bilbies) or 61420540 (Koalas and Echidnas) to check in on your child at any time.  We usually find that the children settle quite quickly, at times before you even get to your car.

We are looking forward to catching up with all our families next week at our Welcome BBQ on Wednesday 20th February at 5pm-6.30pm.  Please you make sure you remember to send in your RSVP and dietary requirements by Wednesday 13th February.

Library borrowing will commence this week, with the Kangaroos and Koalas borrowing every TUESDAY and the Bilbies and Echidnas borrowing every FRIDAY.  Please send your child to preschool with a separate library bag on these days so they can borrow a book.  Preschoolers are able to borrow ONE book each week.

As we are a SunSmart school, sunscreen is available at preschool for you to apply to your child upon arrival.  If your child has any sensitivities, please feel free to send them with their own sunscreen and advise staff.
